Jessica Lahey is an educator, author, and speaker.  She writes the bi-weekly column "The Parent-Teacher Conference" for the New York Times, is a contributing writer for The Atlantic, and a commentator on Vermont Public Radio.  Her book, The Gift of Failure: How the Best Parents Learn to Let Go So Their Children Can Succeed, will be published by Harper Collins and available August 11, 2015.

Jessica joins us today on Inspiring Educators to discuss her new book and the unintentional consequences of over-parenting.  Gift of Failure provides a wonderful historical chronology of change in parenting role and societal expectations from our adolescents.  The book is also a personal account from a viewpoint of a mother and a classroom teacher struggling and succeeding on finding a balance between providing and empowering her own children and students.  Most importantly, Jessica's book challenges us, as parents or teachers, to reassess our approach to teaching and provides valued guidelines for our daily interactions with teens.

Join us as we celebrate our launch of Season 2, episode 44: The Gift of Failure!
